Interview with Abbey Piro
Abbey Piro (class of 2019) was a former Beautiful Social Research Collaborative consultant and Foley Fellow. Abbey currently is a Community School Site Director at CORA Services. CORA Services is a non-profit family services organization. Abbey runs an after-school program. On a day-to-day basis, Abbey trains staff, manages staff, communicates with parents in the school, district meetings, and oversees daily program implementation.
I had two questions for Abbey. The first one being: “What skills or any notable experiences did you gain through Beautiful Social?”.
Abbey said Beautiful Social was a big reason for why she went into education. Being a Fellow helped her learn how to help others succeed and help other people learn the skills she has. Abbey said Beautiful Social also helped her learn how to manage her time and how to help others manage their time. She said it also helped her understand non-profits as a whole.
I then asked Abbey my second question which was: “What do you think Beautiful Social helped teach you about what you like or don’t like when looking at a company to work for?”.
Abbey said Beautiful Social helped show her that she wants to work for a company where the people are actually passionate about what they do and care about the work they do. She likes to work in an environment where she can tell that the people who work there actually want to be there and actually want to put the effort in. Abbey thinks without this that it just makes work harder to do and less enjoyable.
